AMEN Membership Policy
Background
When AMEN was registered as a CIC in April 2024, all members of ExCo signed up to the community interest statement and became the first members of the company “directors”. Thus, AMEN CIC started with 10 members and, moving forward, every CIC is required to have:

Membership applications in a form approved by directors

Admission of members approved by directors

Register of members

Registers of directors and secretaries
Policy
1. Membership of AMEN is open to Clergy and Laity of Minority Ethnic Heritage and to allies who support the goals of AMEN, and have completed the membership applications process.
2. Membership applications shall include:

Name and Address

E-mail
-
Phone number
-
Confirmation of commitment to the goals of AMEN.

Undertaking to contribute £1 to the assets of AMEN CIC in the event of the

company being wound up whilst they are a member.

Consent to their data being recorded on the register of members and used to
-
send communications to members whilst they are a member.

Opt-in box for communications via phone
3. Decisions on membership applications shall be delegated by the board to a Membership
Committee comprising the following:

The two representatives of York Province
-
The two representatives of Canterbury Province
-
The Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Representative
-
Membership & Network Administrator (Secretary)
-
AMEN Vice Chair (Chair)
4. A member who acts against the object, aims or values of the Network may have their membership terminated if the board so decides, provided that they have had the opportunity to put their case to the board before a final decision is made.
Membership Applications Process
Application
Invitations to apply for membership will be advertised by the Communications Team via the AMEN website, AMEN newsletter, social media, and other appropriate channels.
Prospective members will complete their application providing the required data and submit it electronically.
Decision
The Membership & Network Administrator shall cause applications from prospective members to be circulated to the Membership Committee for their consideration. The committee shall determine its own procedure.
Admission
A person becomes a member when their details have been added to the register. Once an application has been approved by the Membership Committee, the Membership & Network Administrator shall add details of the new member to the Register of Members.
Registers
The Registers of Members, Directors, and Secretaries shall be initialised with the details of the members of ExCo who signed the Community Interest Statement as the first directors of the company.
Responsibility for maintaining the books of the company are as follows:
Register of Members - Membership & Network Administrator
Register of Directors – Secretary
Register of Secretaries – Secretary
Termination
In the event of the death of a member, the Membership & Network Administrator shall record in the Register of Members that their membership ended on their date of death.
Any concerns that a member is acting against the object, aims or values of the network shall be referred to the Chair of the Membership Committee, who shall arrange for the matter to be considered by the Membership Committee to initiate any appropriate investigation. They may, if thought fit, bring a proposal to the board for determination under the Membership Policy
