In response to her election as chair Canon Harrop thanked the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam for her leadership, which was curtailed by her appointment as Bishop of Huddersfield shortly after her election in November 2022. She gave particular thanks for the blessing of Bishop Smitha’s cool head, calm and warm heart, prayerful Godly-wisdom and compassion. Canon Harrop noted with thanks AMEN’s growing membership and partners, and the support of leaders both within and external to structures of the Church.
Together they have helped turn challenges into opportunity to strengthen AMEN’s capability and, by so doing, deepened the resolve to draw the Church of England closer to God’s Kingdom imperatives of justice and diversity. She looks forward to working with the newly constituted ExCo to continue the good work.
About AMEN
Anglican Minority Ethnic Network (AMEN) CIC is an independent network promoting the presence and participation of Anglicans of Minority Ethnic Heritage in all structures of the Church of England in the service of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Though independent, the Group works with the Racial Justice Unit (RJU) and enjoyed the support of CMEAC (Committee for Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns)* and is a strong voice within the Church of England. Representatives from AMEN were part of the From Lament to Action anti-racism task force which was commissioned by the archbishops to look into issues around racial justice within the Church and to make recommendations that could serve as drivers of culture change.
*'this committee is dissolved and being replaced by the Archbishops Council's Racial Justice Board (RJB) and Racial Justice Panel (RJP)'
